As part of our commitment to support local students in their pursuit of higher education, the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara provided critical financial aid information to over 1,000 students and their families at the 2013 College Fair on November 6th.
During the day-long event for SBCC transfer students and the evening event for Santa Barbara County high school students, representatives from 80 colleges and universities from around the country, including the University of California and the California State University systems, distributed information about the educational programs and degrees offered at their institutions. Staff from the Scholarship Foundation’s Student Outreach Program were also on hand to distribute student aid brochures and discuss the process of applying for financial support.
In two special workshops at the evening event, Outreach Coordinator Naree Sorich presented The Four Sources of Financial Aid, an overview of federal, state, and institutional aid, as well as outside support from organizations such as The Scholarship Foundation, to more than 200 students and parents. Naree’s sessions included instructions to make college affordable and a reminder of the upcoming financial aid application deadlines.
Through college fairs, high school programs, and other community presentations, The Scholarship Foundation is helping educate the community about college financial aid and is making the dream of higher education a reality for thousands of Santa Barbara County students.
