Interviews

faq-interviews

When is my interview?
Interviews are generally conducted during the month of March that follows the January application deadline.
Where will my interview be?

If you’re a high school senior, your interview will probably be conducted at your school. We coordinate with your school’s counseling office, and they will contact you with your interview time and date once it is scheduled.

College students, including graduate or medical school students, will have their interview at the Scholarship Foundation office during normal business hours. (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm). We will contact you by email to schedule an interview, so please be sure to keep us updated if your contact information changes.

What if I’m away at college outside of Santa Barbara County?
You should email the Foundation at [email protected] to indicate several days when you will be in the Santa Barbara area during the month of March and available for an interview.
What if I won’t be in Santa Barbara County in March?
A limited number of out-of-state students may request an early interview during the December holiday season, if necessary, only if their application is already complete.
Do I have to do an interview in person?
If you are in the Santa Barbara County area, yes. Skype interviews are generally limited to out-of-state applicants.
What should I wear?
There is no specific dress code, but we recommend that you dress neatly.
What will the interviewer expect me to talk about?
Yourself! Topics will include your background, motivation, academic history, interests, and goals. If you have activities or achievements that you couldn’t or didn’t add to your application, now is the time to talk about it.
Will I be asked why I need a scholarship?
No. Do be prepared to discuss what plans you have to finance your college education, above and beyond a scholarship from our organization.
