Last week, 21 promising student artists were awarded scholarships at the Scholarship Foundation’s 35th annual Art Exhibition and Reception.
These financial awards are part of our Art Competition program, which invites high school seniors to submit artwork to be judged by a panel of prominent local artists. This year, 32 students’ work were appraised by Tony Askew, Patti Jacquemain, and Chris Orwig.
Winners were vetted at a reception in their honor at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s Ridley-Tree Education Center. Students displayed their art and mingled with their families and guests, including many of the generous art patrons who provided the funding for our art scholarships.
Each year students tell us that these awards help launch the trajectory of their career in art. Scholarships provide more than financial support, they provide encouragement and opportunity.
