2016 Achieve Program Students from Santa Barbara City College

Programs for Students

The Scholarship Foundation also focuses on getting students prepared for college, to stay in college, and complete college. Our student programs, in addition to providing scholarships and free financial aid advising, include the Achieve Program and the College Scholars Academy.

Achieve Program

We created the Achieve Program in direct response to statistics showing lower college enrollment rates and higher dropout rates for first-generation and other underserved students in comparison to their peers.

Scholarship Foundation staff support Achieve students while they are earning their associate degrees and assist with their transfer to four-year colleges or universities, including connecting them with peer and academic support services and financial aid resources.

Achieve students have higher grade point averages and higher rates of transferring to four-year colleges and universities in comparison with our scholarship recipients who do not participate in the program.

College Scholars Academy

The College Scholars Academy, piloted in August 2014, is a program focused exclusively on building the college awareness and personal confidence of young men of color. During the program, 12 students have met with our Program Advisors to explore topics such as college fit, career readiness, and leadership skills. In addition, they toured several college campuses and, in their final year, they will begin submitting college applications. We are proud to share that all of the participants are planning to attend college.
